The Aw measurement chamber represents a very cost-effective and quick solution to assess the activity of water in a product as it does not require the calibration of each individual test material. It allows you to accurately determine the water activity value of products such as salt, spices, granules, dried fruits, flours and many other foods and it can also be used for other other products than foods, such as plastic granules and similars.
The Aw value or activity of water is calculated by dividing relative humidity by 100% and thus used as an indicator for unbound water content in products. This is especially important in the quality control of foods. Given that a certain proportion of unbound water in a product can make it prone to the growth of microorganisms and bacteria, the Aw value is decisive in the quality and shelf life of a product.
As soon as the humidity balance in the chamber is established, the Aw value is indicated on the RH2 display. This adjustment time (from 5-60 minutes) depends on the specific kind of test material used.
Please note that the Aw value sensor displayed here is intended for exclusive use with the RH2 moisture meter and that the AW chamber should not be used for juices, acid nor alcohol-containing products.
